- The ideal to create Riverscape came from a strong desire to unite downtown Dayton, and the Great Miami River.
- The Great Miami Flood caused the residents of Dayton, Ohio to become detracted from the Great Miami River because of the devastation and displacement it caused.
- The waterway has a vibrant waterway, with wildflowers, active fishing, bike and walking trails.
- Riverscape was built to reclaim the downtown area which was declining and unattractive due to suburban sprawl.
- A joint effort between the Downtown Dayton Partnership, Five Rivers Metro Parks, and the Miami Conservancy District developed a master plan in 1997 to reconnect downtown to the river and revitalize the over all look of the downtown Dayton, Ohio.
- Over $30 million dollars was raised to fund the construction of Riverscape. The money to finance the development came from private individuals and companies led by David Holmes of Reynolds and Reynolds, which is a prominent company.
- On May 19, 2001, the park opened to a crowd of 50,000, which was noted as the largest crowd to ever gather in downtown Dayton, Ohio.
- Riverscape has an exciting laser and water works display at night during the summer months. On special occasions like the fourth of July, there are firework displays, musical concerns, and venders.
- During the winter months the Riverscape turns into an ice rink for children and families.
VISIT THE UNITED STATES AIRFORCE MUESEM
- The United States Air force Museum was established in October 1922 and first opened in 1923.
- The museum is the worlds oldest military aviation museum.
VISIT THE PAUL LAWRENCE DUNBAR HOUSE
- Paul Lawrence Dunbar was an African American poet and writer known nationally and internationally for his writings.
- There are many Paul Lawrence Dunbar High Schools throughout the United States, but the first originated in Dayton, Ohio.
- The Paul Lawrence Dunbar house is on the national historic landmark registry.
VISIT THE DAYTON ART INSTITUTE
- The Dayton Art Institute was founded in 1919.
- The Founders of the Dayton Art Institute included leaders and pioneers like Orville and Wilbur Wright inventors of the airplane, and Charles Kettering among others.
- The museum operated a traditional art school at one point.
- The museum originally occupied a mansion in Downtown Dayton, but the museum outgrew its original space.
- A prominent community leader and philanthropist named Mrs. Julia Shaw Carnell committed $2 million to a landmark building designed by a prominent architect.
- The Dayton Art Institute sits on the edge of a hill looking over the Great Miami River.
